Mr. Simms summer vacation

The private life of Mr. Simms was an extraordinary one. During the summer vacation he didn't hibernate, as I would have expected, in fact he did the opposite. The summer vacation was the time of year which Mr. Simms enjoyed the most. As the school was nearing it's end for this year Simms began to get unbelievably excited. The things he did during the summer would be considered strange and disturbing to his students however relatively normal to the other teachers in the school.
This year however was not quite the same as his wife was expecting a baby by the time school begins again therefore Mr. Simms spent half of his time studying what is expected of his wife after the birth of their child- watching Desperate Housewives. He remained inside his house for days on end watching the countless episodes one after the other out of fear and anxiety. He was horrified by the emotional traumas the 4 women in Desperate Housewives had as a result of being a housewife with a child. After finishing all four seasons, and getting quite involved with each character he proceeded with his summer holiday as if it were any other- he went to Tijuana.
As soon as the Desperate Housewives marathon was over Mr. Simms packed his bags and headed for Tijuana. This was the time which Mr Simms thought about while he was teaching his students about the civil war, or showing them a power point of the crusaders. It was definitely the highlight of the year. Going to Tijuana was an annual occurrence for Mr. Simms and every time he went, enjoyed it thoroughly. When he first got there he felt like he was home once more. He thought about his students, probably living their usual lame and boring lives. The first thing he did was go to a parade dressed in one of the colorful costumes which are usually worn there. He always considered the parades and festivals to be the heart of all excitement going on in the summer. He planned also on eating the local food, hiking somewhere and bird-watching. Even though all of these things were done summer after summer Mr. Simms never got tired or bored of it.
Another thing Mr. Simms did for a couple of weeks, while he was in America was take a full-time job as a truck-driver. This, to him, was also considered great fun. The truck was a great pride of Simms and loved to make adjustments to it.
This was just one of the many summer vacations Mr Simms had.

Lili Marlene- Marlene Dietrich

Lately I haven't been listening to much music but if I were to listen to music it would be Marlene Dietrich songs. My favorite song of hers is Paff Der Zauberdrachen, although for this post i chose her most famous song- Lili Marlene.

The reason i chose this song is because it represented a very significant part of Marlene Dietrich's life. Marlene Dietrich, as many people know, was a German actress and singer. She was born in 1901 and died in Paris in 1992. In the 1930's she became a Hollywood actress and eventually became an American citizen. When World War II began, representatives of the Nazi Party asked her to return to Germany however she refused. Even though she was German herself she was an anti-Nazi and was very much against antisemitism. She was one of the first celebrities to raise war-bonds, and was an entertainer for the US army. Dietrich would sing many songs about war, to the troops, such as Lili Marlene and Sag Mir Wo Die Blumen Sind(Where Have All The Flowers Gone). For some she is considered a traitor to Germany.

Lili Marlene is a song which Dietrich would often sing to the troops. There are many different versions of the song, the differences being in the lyrics. She sang the song in German and English. I personally prefer the English version of the song probably because i can understand it.

me

My name is Anabella, and i am Cypriot and 1/4 Greek but i don't feel either =\. I don't speak Greek well, at all, but i understand it fairly well. The thing which makes me different from most Cypriots is that i don't like Cyprus, or the sea. I much prefer cold weather, and green surroundings.
I don't really listen to music except for marlene dietrich songs=] The movies i prefer to watch are the classics, like psycho, the birds, the nanny...
My favorite book is Henry James' the Europeans probably because that is the only book i have read of his.
Another thing which makes me different to most is that i would much prefer living in the 1700's.
